Major tournaments will certainly be played in person, while some will still be online. Battle royales like Apex Legends are still mostly online, with only a couple of LAN events.

Blockchain in Gaming

This is not what most gamers want to see, but microtransactions rule video games today. Notably, Ubisoft and Square Enix have already laid plans for introducing non-refundable tokens or NFTs into their games.

While most people are against it, the publishers deem that gamers will be using NFTs and will trade them for cosmetics and other items that only have worth within the game’s ecosystem. The power expenditure is also taken into consideration, but most gamers unfortunately know little or care about the environment and energy consumption. 

Cloud Gaming Might Become Possible

This is a topic which large companies have tried to make happen for a long time, however, with little to no success. Cloud gaming is really latency-bound, which is problematic if a server is thousands of miles away.

However, with 5G being implemented everywhere, there might be a possibility of cloud gaming actually becoming viable, if not in 2022, then in the years to come. Companies will surely be pushing for their products, even though they are certainly not ready.
